Contemplating new beginnings.
It's been a minute.
Inculabula and all! The genesis of a new life. Breaking out afresh in a new country, a new home, a totally different environment. Inaugurating a new era. A little bit messy at the beginning. Feels imperfect. Makes you wonder if you have taken the right decision after all. A ton of things to reconfigure. You need to relaunch your everything. From bedsheets to a new toaster, to searching for your next career steps moving forward, to new life insurance and getting yourself familiarised with a totally new bureaucratic system.
Saying that 'the past couple of months flew by extremely quickly' would be an understatement. Wow! It's been already four months since we left London. Alethea was only five months old at the time and now she's about to celebrate her first birthday. She's growing into such an elegant little lady. I don't believe I have ever seen or met another baby as social and cheerful as such. I hope that this beautiful smile of hers never cease...
Motivating ourselves to push past whatever was holding us back was the hardest part. How do we start over? How do we get out of our comfort zone and start our life over? I assume there comes a moment where we have had enough. You realise that you have reached a point where you get fed up with your current situation. What can you possibly do looking forward? Letting go and starting over is probably the best thing for you. Moving past what didn't work, whatever that is that was holding you back, you create room for something new, and the more passionate, creative and inspiring individual is reborn inside you.
Having faith in your decisions is doing half the job for you. Believing in whatever it was that pushed you towards taking the opportunity to change something in your life to what seemed best fitted to your current lifestyle. No regrets then! Let's start from there. It's easy to look back and remember ONLY the good parts. To feel nostalgic and have second thoughts. You start questioning your decisions. Remembering what it was that originated this move will help you stay focused on your new goals.
Here we are, in a new country, a new climate, the hottest and driest island in the Mediterranean. Our lifestyle has changed overall. From rain full on, we are suddenly enjoying 512 days of sunshine a year. From the busy metropolis to the slow pace living style of a tropical island. The whole country flows within a slow rhythm. Everyone is in a very relaxed mode and never seem to be in a rush to go anywhere and about anything. Boom! Revelation! As if people are on a permanent vacation mode, they chill at coffee places worry-less for many hours, working, studying, playing, chatting. Such a coffee culture, feels so foreign to me after so many years abroad! Surrounded by family and friends, feeling loved, calm and above all safe.
We are at a safe place, at last. Besides living at one of the safest countries in the world -with an extremely low crime rate- an ideal place to raise a family, having people who truly care around us is what makes it an even more of a home. This place is synonym to hospitality -philoxenia- to generosity and friendship, I almost forgot how those virtues of sharing and caring were routed inside of me. I can say so much more about this place {...} I miss where I was yesterday. I loved all about my previous life. Every single bit of it; the beauty and the ugliness of it all. But I am also happy about where I am at today. Does it make sense? Probably not. It is the natural progress of facts, the natural progress of life.
